Papillary muscle ischemia on high-resolution cine imaging of nitrogen-13 ammonia positron emission tomography: Association with myocardial flow reserve and prognosis in coronary artery disease

Risako Nakao et al.

Summary: This study found that NH3PET can be used to detect papillary muscle ischemia, which is present in approximately 10% of patients with known or suspected CAD. Papillary muscle ischemia is associated with reduced global MFR and increased rate of major adverse cardiac events. Papillary muscle ischemia is an important predictor of prognosis.

13 N-ammonia PET-derived right ventricular longitudinal strain and myocardial flow reserve in right coronary artery disease

Masateru Kawakubo et al.

Summary: The feature-tracking algorithm in (13) N-ammonia PET imaging can be used to clarify the association between RV LS and RCA ischemia. The study found that decreased stress RV-LS was observed in patients with an RCA-MFR < 2.0, while stressed RV-LS was significantly increased in patients with MFR >= 2.0 for all territories.

Role of quantitative myocardial blood flow and 13N-ammonia washout for viability assessment in ischemic cardiomyopathy

Dominik C. Benz et al.

Summary: The study investigated the use of PET to predict myocardial viability by measuring myocardial blood flow and washout, finding that NH3 PET parameters have low to moderate diagnostic performance for predicting viability in ischemic cardiomyopathy, and proposing a safe method for viability testing.

Summary: In patients with ischemic heart failure, quantitative PET metrics, particularly myocardial flow reserve (MFR), have shown to significantly improve risk stratification and predict major adverse cardiac events.
