Yasin Orooji et al.

Summary: In order to reduce membrane module wastage, a membrane for monitoring with fluorescent sensing was introduced to determine the right cleaning time. By using a sustainable and sensitive fluorescent indicator, membranes with identical biofouling activity compared to conventional ones were fabricated, showing potential for non-destructive and online biofouling monitoring. The use of specific materials and characterization methods allowed for the development of membranes with optimal luminescence properties.
