Enhancing the stability of zein/fucoidan composite nanoparticles with calcium ions for quercetin delivery

Hong Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, composite nanoparticles based on zein and fucoidan were prepared, and the effects of different calcium ion concentrations on the stability of the system loaded with quercetin were investigated. It was found that the addition of Ca2+ improved the release of active substances from the nanoparticles, especially at a concentration of 1.5 mM. This suggests potential applications for these composite nanosystems in delivering active substances.

Assessment of the Activity of Decoquinate and Its Quinoline-O-Carbamate Derivatives against Toxoplasma gondii In Vitro and in Pregnant Mice Infected with T. gondii Oocysts

Jessica Ramseier et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic effects of quinolone decoquinate (DCQ) and its derivatives on Toxoplasma gondii, revealing that the quinoline-O-carbamate derivative RMB060 has a lower IC50 value and a higher selectivity index, affecting parasite mitochondria. However, in a mouse model, these drugs did not completely prevent the transmission of Toxoplasma gondii.

Elucidating the Antimycobacterial Mechanism of Action of Decoquinate Derivative RMB041 Using Metabolomics

Kirsten E. Knoll et al.

Summary: Tuberculosis, caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, remains a leading cause of death globally due to drug resistance and lack of patient adherence. A decoquinate derivative RMB041 has shown promising antimicrobial activity against Mtb, but its mechanism of action remains unknown. Metabolic analysis suggests that the drug primarily affects fatty acid and amino acid metabolism in Mtb, supporting previous findings of its action on cell wall and DNA metabolism.
