Association of enhanced circulating trimethylamine N-oxide with vascular endothelial dysfunction in periodontitis patients

Jiamin Zhou et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates for the first time that circulating TMAO levels are increased in patients with Stage III-IV periodontitis, and correlated with vascular endothelial dysfunction. These findings may provide a novel insight into the mechanism of vascular endothelial dysfunction in patient with periodontitis via TMAO-downregulated EPC functions.

Effects of chronic apical periodontitis on the inflammatory response of the aorta in hyperlipemic rats

Shuai Chen et al.

Summary: The study found that chronic apical periodontitis (CAP) has an impact on the inflammatory response and initial lesions of the aorta in hyperlipemic rats, leading to high expression of cytokines, especially IL-2, IL-6, and IL-10. CAP may trigger a systemic inflammatory response and affect the aorta in patients.

PRIASE 2021 guidelines for reporting animal studies in Endodontology: explanation and elaboration

V. Nagendrababu et al.

Summary: The PRIASE 2021 guidelines were developed for Endodontology to improve the quality, accuracy, reproducibility, completeness, and transparency of reports describing animal studies. These guidelines consist of a checklist with 11 domains and 43 individual items as well as a flowchart. The document aims to explain each item in the PRIASE 2021 checklist and flowchart with examples from the literature to provide usage guidance.

The global prevalence of apical periodontitis: a systematic review and meta-analysis

C. S. Tiburcio-Machado et al.

Summary: Half of the adult population worldwide have at least one tooth with apical periodontitis. The prevalence of AP is greater in samples from the dental care services, but it is also high amongst community representative samples from the general population. The present findings should bring the attention of health policymakers, medical and dental communities to the hidden burden of endodontic disease in the population worldwide.

Gut Microbiota May Mediate the Influence of Periodontitis on Prediabetes

L. Li et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates a potential link between periodontitis and diabetes mediated by gut microbiota. Depletion of gut microbiota with antibiotics improved diabetes-related markers in periodontitis mice. This suggests a role of gut microbiota in influencing the impact of periodontitis on prediabetes.

Aline Maria do Couto et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of chronic inflammatory periapical diseases in different regions of Brazil, with a focus on radicular cysts as the most common lesion. Women, white individuals, and those with lesions located in the maxillary posterior region were found to be more affected by these diseases.
