Stage-specific action of juvenile hormone analogs

Ramaseshadri Parthasarathy et al.

Summary: The discovery of juvenile hormones and their synthetic analogs did not meet the high expectations of replacing traditional insecticides, but recent advancements have provided more insights into their mode of action. This review summarizes the stage-specific action of three commercially used analogs on different pests and disease vectors.

Detection of juvenile hormone agonists by a new reporter gene assay using yeast expressing Drosophila methoprene-tolerant

Sayoko Ito-Harashima et al.

Summary: Juvenile hormones (JHs) play crucial roles in insect growth, metamorphosis, and reproduction, with synthetic JH agonists (JHAs) being used as insecticides. Both natural JHs and synthetic JHAs bind to the JH receptor Met, inducing the transcription of JH response genes. A new yeast reporter gene assay (RGA) has been established for detecting various juvenoid ligands in a dose-dependent manner, showing correlation with RGAs established in mammalian and insect cells.
