Electrochemical Synthesis of High-Nitrogen Materials and Energetic Materials

Joseph Yount et al.

Summary: Electrochemical synthesis is an environmentally friendly method for preparing molecules, widely used in various fields but lagging in the energetic materials sector. This review covers the history and transformations of synthetic electrochemistry for high-nitrogen energetic materials, serving as a starting point for those in this field and interested in high-nitrogen molecules.

Syntheses, Structures, and Properties of Polynitro-Substituted 5,6-Dihydrodiimidazo[1,2-a:2′,1′-c]pyrazine Energetic Compounds

Yuangang Xu et al.

Summary: A series of polynitro-substituted 5,6-dihydrodiimidazo[1,2-a:2',1'-c]pyrazine energetic compounds were synthesized by cyclization and nitration of biimidazole. The structures and properties of the compounds were investigated, and compounds 3-6 were found to be thermally stable and insensitive. They showed potential as replacements for TNT due to their superior detonation performances and good stabilities.

Krapcho Decarboxylation of Ethyl-Carbazate: Synthetic Approach toward 1,1′-Diamino-5,5′-bistetrazole and Its Utilization as a High-Performing Metal-Free Initiator

Maximilian Benz et al.

Summary: 1,1'-Diamino-5,5'-bistetrazole is a highly nitrogen-containing compound with promising energetic characteristics. It can be synthesized through a classic organic reaction protocol, which is the only Krapcho reaction on a carbamate system described in the literature. Extensive characterization and demonstration of its capability to initiate PETN have been conducted.

Oxygen-Enriched Metal-Organic Frameworks Based on 1-(Trinitromethyl)-1H-1,2,4-Triazole-3-Carboxylic Acid and Their Thermal Decomposition and Effects on the Decomposition of Ammonium Perchlorate

Feng Yang et al.

Summary: This study synthesized two series of Energetic metal-organic frameworks (EMOFs) with different ligands and characterized their structure, thermal stability, thermal decomposition kinetics, and energy performance, showing a wide range of density and acceptable energy performance. Among these EMOFs, [Ag(tntrza)](n) stood out for its exceptional detonation performance and catalytic effect on the decomposition of ammonium perchlorate (AP), broadening the horizon for oxygen-enriched EMOFs with catalytic effects.

Novel metal-organic frameworks assembled from the combination of polynitro-pyrazole and 5-nitroamine-1,2,4-oxadiazole: synthesis, structure and thermal properties

Feng Yang et al.

Summary: This paper presents two kinds of energetic metal organic frameworks (EMOFs) based on methylene-linked polynitropyrazole and nitroamine 1,2,4-oxadiazole, exploring their detonation performance and stability. The study found that the compounds exhibit 3D stacking phenomenon due to hydrogen bonds and coordination bonds inside the crystal. Compound 5 showed superior detonation performance and sensitivity to mechanical stimuli compared to compound 4 due to the difference in the number of energetic groups (-NO2).
