Molecular Assemblies Offering Hydrogen-Bonding Cavities: Influence of Macrocyclic Cavity and Hydrogen Bonding on Dye Adsorption

Sanya Pachisia et al.

Summary: This study introduces a series of Hg macrocycles with amide-phosphine-based ligands that possess H-bonding cavities of different sizes. These macrocycles selectively adsorb anionic dyes, followed by neutral dyes and the biologically relevant antibiotic Prontosil, through H-bonding-assisted encapsulation. Kinetic experiments, as well as spectroscopic and docking studies, highlight the significance of cavity structure and H-bonds in the selective adsorption of dyes.

Half-Sandwich Ruthenium Complexes of Amide-Phosphine Based Ligands: H-Bonding Cavity Assisted Binding and Reduction of Nitro-substrates

Sanya Pachisia et al.

Summary: This study reports the synthesis and characterization of two half-sandwich Ru(II) complexes supported with amide-phosphine based ligands, which serve as significant catalysts for the borohydride mediated reduction of various nitro-substrates. Mechanistic studies have confirmed the intermediacy of [Ru-H] in the reduction and asserted the involvement of several organic intermediates during the catalysis.

Selective Detection of Picric Acid and Pyrosulfate Ion by Nickel Complexes Offering a Hydrogen-Bonding-Based Cavity

Divya Prabha et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the synthesis and characterization of three mononuclear nickel complexes supported with amide-based pincer ligands, which showed potential as nanomolar chemosensors for detecting picric acid and pyrosulfate ion. The results suggest that these complexes have an H-bonding-based cavity structure that can form H-bonds with the metalligated solvent molecules.

Hydration of Aliphatic Nitriles Catalyzed by an Osmium Polyhydride: Evidence for an Alternative Mechanism

Juan C. Babon et al.

Summary: The hexahydride OsH6((PPr3)-Pr-i)(2) efficiently catalyzes the hydration of aliphatic nitriles to amides, with the main metal species being the trihydride osmium(IV) amidate derivatives OsH3{kappa(2)-N,O-[HNC(O)R]}((PPr3)-Pr-i)(2). Experimental findings and density functional theory calculations established the mechanism of catalysis, where the attack of an external water molecule on the nitrile and amidate leads to the formation of the amide through a six-membered transition state. The study highlights the importance of OsH6((PPr3)-Pr-i)(2) in this catalytic reaction.
