Inner-sphere electron transfer at the ruthenium-azo interface

Sanjib Panda et al.

Summary: This article discusses metal complexes with multiple reversible redox states, focusing on ruthenium-acac complexes containing the redox-active azo-derived abim. The study reveals the varying redox states of abim in different complexes and highlights the impact of metal-to-azo electron transfer on stabilizing bridging modes. Additionally, the newly developed Cu-abim complex demonstrates unique variations in bridging modes within the same molecular unit, emphasizing the concept of coordination-induced lengthening of the azo bond.

Redox-Induced Intramolecular C-C Coupling of Acyclic Bis(2-pyridylmethylene)ethylenediamine on a Ru(acac)2 Platform

Mitrali Biswas et al.

Summary: This paper documents the redox-triggered C-C coupling of acyclic N,N'-bis(2-pyridylmethylene)ethylenediamine (BPE) to yield 2,3-bis(2-pyridyl)pyrazine (DPP) upon coordination to an electron-rich {Ru(acac)2} unit. The study addresses the synergistic metal-ligand redox participation towards chemical noninnocence of the Schiff base ligand and DPP-mediated electronic communication in RuII-RuIII-derived [2]ClO4.

Diruthenium and triruthenium compounds of the potential redox active non-chelated η1-N,η1-N-benzothiadiazole bridge

Sanchaita Dey et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of non-chelated BTD-bridged diruthenium(II) and triruthenium complexes were synthesized and characterized, and their properties in different coordination modes were studied. These complexes exhibited metal-based anisotropic electron paramagnetic resonance and intense low-energy intervalence charge-transfer transitions in the near-infrared region.

Azobispyrazole Family as Photoswitches Combining (Near-) Quantitative Bidirectional Isomerization and Widely Tunable Thermal Half-Lives from Hours to Years**

Yixin He et al.

Summary: Azobispyrazoles are a new family of molecular photoswitches with (near-)quantitative bidirectional photoconversion and widely tunable Z-isomer thermal half-lives. The two five-membered rings in their structure weaken intramolecular steric hindrance, providing new possibilities for engineering the geometric and electronic structure of azo photoswitches. Their twisted Z-isomers allow for complete Z -> E photoisomerization, and their thermal stability can be adjusted broadly, overcoming the conflict between photoconversion and Z-isomer stability encountered by mono-heteroaryl azo switches.
