Toxicity of citronella essential oil and its nanoemulsion against the sawtoothed grain beetle Oryzaephilus surinamensis (Coleoptera: Silvanidae)

Fatehia Nasser Gharsan et al.

Summary: In this study, the effectiveness of citronella essential oil and its nanoemulsion in controlling O. surinamensis adults was compared. The nanoemulsion was found to be more effective than the pure essential oil, with significant differences in toxicity. Citronella nanoemulsion shows promise as an alternative to chemical pesticides for protecting stored products.

Fumigant toxicity of three Satureja species on tomato leafminers, Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae)

Shima Rahmani et al.

Summary: Essential oils extracted from three savory species showed significant insecticidal activity against Tuta absoluta larvae and increased general esterases in treated larvae. However, sublethal effects of the oils on larval esterase bands were not demonstrated. This suggests the potential development of new bio-pesticides from these promising plants in the future.

Is centrifugal ultrafiltration a robust method for determining encapsulation efficiency of pesticide nanoformulations?

Rocio Lopez-Cabeza et al.

Summary: Loading active ingredients on nanocarrier systems is a common strategy for improving pesticide formulations. However, the losses of active ingredients during centrifugal ultrafiltration are typically not assessed, potentially leading to erroneous results. The EE of compounds such as chlorpyrifos may not be suitable for determination by centrifugal ultrafiltration, as 100% losses were observed on all devices tested. Losses of tebuconazole and terbuthylazine varied depending on the type of membrane, with the lowest losses occurring in devices with hydrophilic regenerated cellulose membranes. A correction factor was proposed and demonstrated to calculate the EE of nanoformulations based on poly(epsilon-caprolactone) nanocarriers.
