Functional Characterization of Two Lycopene Cyclases from Sweet Osmanthus (Osmanthus fragrans)

Hongsheng Qing et al.

Summary: This study investigated lycopene cyclases in sweet osmanthus and found that the LCYB and LCYE genes catalyze the formation of beta-carotene and epsilon-carotene from lycopene, respectively. These findings provide important theoretical basis for future metabolic engineering of carotenoid biosynthesis and accumulation in sweet osmanthus flowers.

Comparative transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses of carotenoid biosynthesis reveal the basis of white petal color in Brassica napus

Ledong Jia et al.

Summary: The molecular mechanism underlying white petal color in Brassica napus was revealed by transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses, showing that decreased lutein and zeaxanthin contents primarily contribute to the white petal color. Transcriptome analysis identified a large number of differentially expressed genes, including key genes in carotenoid metabolism pathway, in white vs. yellow petals.

Integrated metabolic profiling and transcriptome analysis of pigment accumulation in Lonicera japonica flower petals during colour-transition

Yan Xia et al.

Summary: Our study revealed that changes in carotenoids and anthocyanins contents, as well as the expression levels of related genes, are associated with petal color transitions in Lonicera japonica. Furthermore, endogenous hormones play a role in regulating these color transitions.

Association between differential gene expression and anthocyanin biosynthesis underlying the diverse array of petal colors in Zinnia elegans

Jieyu Qian et al.

Summary: The study compared the anthocyanin content, gene expression, and transcript sequence of Zinnia elegans in six different cultivars within the 'Dreamland' series, revealing differences in petal coloration mechanisms. Different cultivars exhibited variations in anthocyanin presence and type, influenced by gene expression levels and transcript structures, providing insights into the molecular basis of petal color diversity in Z. elegans.
