Capacity of ethanol adjunct-treated interface of ionic liquid aqueous two phase system in simultaneous extraction and purification of sorghum leaf sheath polysaccharides

Otu Phyllis Naa Yarley et al.

Summary: Utilizing response surface methodology, polysaccharides from Sorghum bicolor L. leaf sheath were partially purified using a synergized ethanol-treated ionic liquid aqueous two-phase system and dual frequency ultrasound-assisted extraction. The dual frequency ultrasound-assisted dialysis successfully reduced the salt content of the extracted polysaccharides solution, while maintaining the primary structures of the polysaccharides. The introduction of ethanol in the ionic liquid aqueous two-phase system ensured excellent simultaneous extraction and partial purification.
