Preparation and Flame Retardant Properties of Calcium-Aluminium Hydrotalcite with Root Cutting Silicate Layers as Bamboo Flame Retardants

Ailian Hu et al.

Summary: In this study, CaAl-SiO2 layered double hydroxide (LDH) was synthesized as a flame retardant for bamboo using coprecipitation method, and the influence of preparation technology on its structure and properties was discussed. The optimal technological parameters were determined to be a crystallization temperature of 100 degrees C, a crystallization time of 9 hours, and a Ca2+ solution molar concentration of 0.33 mol/L. Additionally, the flame retardant-treated bamboo showed improved combustion performance compared to nonflame-retardant wood, with delayed peak time of heat release rate and increased carbon residue rate.
