Dynamic/column tests for dibenzothiophene (DBT) removal using chemically functionalized carbons: Exploring the effect of physicochemical features and breakthrough modeling

Kyriaki Kakamouka et al.

Summary: The efficiency of deep desulfurization for commercial activated porous carbon and its chemically modified counterparts was evaluated through dynamic and batch experiments. The oxidation process affected the carbon's physicochemical features, resulting in controversial effects on desulfurization efficiency. The oxidized carbon showed slightly negative performance in column tests but positive performance in batch tests.

Insight into Adsorptive Desulfurization by Zeolites: A MachineLearning Exploration

Liberty L. Mguni et al.

Summary: In this study, machine learning methods were used to predict the performance of zeolite for adsorptive desulfurization (ADS) of hydrocarbon fuels. The random forest model showed better predictive performance than the multiple linear regression model. The initial adsorbate concentration and zeolite properties were identified as the key factors influencing ADS activity. This research demonstrates the utility of using machine learning and literature survey data as a cost-effective alternative to experimental ADS zeolite screening.

Selective filling of n-hexane in a tight nanopore

Haoran Qu et al.

Summary: Research has shown that single-wall carbon nanotubes can separate n-hexane from cyclohexane through nanopores, despite the fact that the kinetic diameters of these molecules are larger than the pore size. Simulations and experiments have revealed that n-hexane molecules can stretch inside the nanotube pores, challenging current understanding of nanopore selectivity.

Activated biochars derived from wood biomass liquefaction residues for effective removal of hazardous hexavalent chromium from aquatic environments

Dominika Janiszewska et al.

Summary: The residues from wood biomass liquefaction were used to synthesize activated biochars with high specific surface areas and micropore volumes. These activated carbons showed significant adsorption capacities for toxic hexavalent chromium and could reduce it to non-toxic trivalent form. Wood residue source played a key role in the effectiveness of chromium removal by resulting carbons.
