Screening of forest tree leaves from North Eastern Himalayan region as feed additives for modulating in vitro rumen fermentation and methanogenesis from total mixed ration

Shilpa Choudhary et al.

Summary: This study assessed the nutritional value and in vitro rumen fermentation parameters of various unconventional tree leaves from the North Eastern Himalayan region. The results showed that leaves of Schefflera wallichiana, Prunus nepalensis, and Ficus hookeri have the potential to improve rumen fermentation and reduce methane production.

Agricultural Biogas Production-Climate and Environmental Impacts

Henrik B. Moller et al.

Summary: Anaerobic digestion can reduce greenhouse gas emissions from livestock manure and produce biogas as a substitute for fossil energy. Different scenarios show reductions in GHG emissions ranging from 65 to 105 kg CO2-eq ton(-1) biomass.

Impact of Dietary Phytogenic Composite Feed Additives on Immune Response, Antioxidant Status, Methane Production, Growth Performance and Nutrient Utilization of Buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) Calves

Krishan Kumar et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of supplementing phytogenic feed additives composed of a mixture of eucalyptus and poplar leaf-meal on immune response, antioxidant status, metabolic profile, enteric methane production, growth performance, and nutrient utilization in buffalo calves. The results showed that the supplementation of these leaf-meal feed additives can improve antioxidant status and immunity, reduce methane production, without affecting performance and nutrient utilization in buffalo calves.

Strategies to Mitigate Enteric Methane Emissions from Ruminant Animals

Tenzin Tseten et al.

Summary: Human activities account for two-thirds of global methane emissions, with the livestock sector being the largest contributor. Methane is a potent greenhouse gas, having over 21 times the warming effect of carbon dioxide. This review summarizes various approaches, such as feed manipulation and the use of feed additives and direct-fed microbial, in mitigating methane emissions from ruminant livestock.

Effect of essential oils and aqueous extracts of plants on in vitro rumen fermentation and methane production

Aaron Alejandro Molho-Ortiz et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of two sources of phytochemicals on in vitro rumen fermentation and methane production. The results showed that the use of essential oils negatively impacted rumen fermentation parameters and methane production. Garlic and cinnamon essential oils effectively reduced methane emissions but also decreased in vitro dry matter digestibility.

Protozoa population and carbohydrate fermentation in sheep fed diet with different plant additives

Malgorzata P. Majewska et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the effects of two plant additives rich in polyphenolic compounds on rumen microorganisms and carbohydrate fermentation in sheep diets. The results showed that the two additives had different effects on rumen microorganisms, possibly due to variations in catechin contributions in the tested plant materials.

Impacts of Mootral on Methane Production, Rumen Fermentation, and Microbial Community in an in vitro Study

Eslam Ahmed et al.

Summary: The study found that Mootral can increase the production of total volatile fatty acids and propionate in a dose-dependent manner, while reducing the proportion of acetate and acetate/propionate ratio. Additionally, Mootral significantly decreased methane production, while minimal effects were observed on pH, digestibility, and ammonia-nitrogen.
