Six-Phase Pole-Changing Winding Induction Machines With Improved Performance

Summary: The article discusses an improved 6-phase electronic pole-changing winding induction machine with a 15% increase in peak torque compared to 3-phase counterparts due to improved winding factor. Finite element analysis is used to predict the torque capability, losses, and efficiency of both 6-phase and 3-phase pole-changing winding induction machines. Experimentally, a 1kW induction machine prototype confirms the improved torque capability of the 6-phase machines over the 3-phase ones under various operating conditions.
