Interplay of environmental cues and wood density in the vegetative and reproductive phenology of seasonally dry tropical forest trees

Summary: The phenological diversity in seasonally dry tropical forests is influenced by both climatic and physiological factors, including wood density. This study found that hardwood species exhibited different phenological responses compared to softwood species. Hardwood species grew and reproduced during the rainy season, while softwood species shed their foliage in the dry season and flowered and fruited shortly after. The environmental factors influencing phenophase attributes were also found to vary depending on the wood density of the species.

The vessel wall thickness-vessel diameter relationship across woody angiosperms

Summary: Comparative anatomy is crucial for understanding the relationship between xylem structure and function. This study focuses on the relationship between vessel diameter and wall thickness. The findings show that below a threshold of 90 μm, virtually any wall thickness can be associated with any diameter, while above this threshold, there is a moderate positive relationship. Additionally, the study reveals poorly studied plant hydraulic syndromes.
