Laws of nature that define biological action and perception

Mark L. Latash

Summary: This article discusses a physical approach to biological functions, focusing on motor and sensory functions. The approach proposes the existence of biology-specific laws of nature uniting key physical variables and parameters. Through abundant mapping of spatial referent coordinates at hierarchical control levels, stability of motor actions is ensured. The sensory function is seen as stable based on an interaction of efferent and afferent signals in an iso-perceptual manifold. This approach offers new interpretations for known neurophysiological and behavioral phenomena, with potential for novel testable predictions.
