Inner ear drug delivery through a cochlear implant: Pharmacokinetics in a Macaque experimental model

Summary: The study aimed to develop a model of inner ear pharmacokinetics by delivering FITC-Dextran directly into the cochlea using an implantable pump connected to a CI electrode array in non-human primates. Results showed different patterns of FITC-Dextran quantification depending on the delivery group, with statistically significant differences observed between the 2 hours and 24 hours groups and 2 hours and 7 days groups. The study concluded that an infusion time ranging from 2 to 24 hours is required to reach a maximum concentration peak at the apex, establishing an even concentration profile from base to apex.
