Hydrogen production from aqueous phase reforming of glycerol over attapulgite-supported nickel catalysts: Effect of acid/base treatment and Fe additive

Wen Cheng et al.

Summary: In this study, nickel-based catalysts supported on modified attapulgite (ATP) were prepared and applied to the aqueous phase reforming of glycerol (APRG). The results showed that the acid/base treatment of ATP significantly improved the catalytic performance, resulting in higher glycerol conversion and hydrogen selectivity. The bimetallic NiFe/MA-E catalyst exhibited the best performance at low temperature. Catalyst deactivation was mainly caused by particle agglomeration and carbon deposition.

Raman spectroscopy as a powerful tool to characterize ceria-based catalysts

Stephane Loridant

Summary: This paper reviews the various opportunities offered by Raman spectroscopy for advanced characterization of ceria-based catalysts, including spectral modifications induced by nanocrystallinity, defects, doping, reduction, identification of supported molecular species, isolated atoms, nanoclusters, surface modes, hydroxyl groups, and reaction intermediates. In situ/operando studies for environmental catalysis are also summarized, highlighting Raman spectroscopy as a powerful tool for characterizing ceria-based catalysts.

Effect of Magnesia Addition in Stability of Cobalt Catalysts Supported on Alumina for Hydrogen Generation by Glycerol Steam Reforming

Joao Paulo da S. Q. Menezes et al.

Summary: The study found that the addition of magnesia can reduce the acidity of the catalyst, but high content of magnesia will decrease the reducibility and cobalt dispersion. All catalysts experienced deactivation during the reaction, with the catalyst supported on 30% MgO-Al2O3 showing the most significant deactivation.

Influence of the initial state of ZrO2 on genesis, activity and stability of Ni/ZrO2 catalysts for steam reforming of glycerol

Sh O. Omarov et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of the initial state of ZrO2 on the properties of Ni/ZrO2 catalysts for hydrogen production in the steam reforming of glycerol. It was found that the mutual influence of NiO and ZrO2 affected the phase composition, pore structure, and reducibility of the catalysts. Different catalytic behaviors were explained by the influence of the initial form of the support on the size, morphology of Ni particles, and the support thermal stability.

H2-rich syngas from glycerol dry reforming over Ni-based catalysts supported on alumina from aluminum dross

Nurul Asmawati Roslan et al.

Summary: In this study, various techniques were used to extract high-purity gamma-Al2O3 for supporting Ni-based catalysts in glycerol dry reforming reaction. Among the tested catalysts, 15%Ni/EGA3 showed the highest catalytic activity due to superior Ni distribution, high surface area of the support, and catalyst basicity. The strong Ni-EGA3 interaction in the catalyst effectively suppressed carbon formation, leading to enhanced catalytic performance.

One step closer to the low-temperature CO oxidation over non-noble CuO/CeO2 nanocatalyst: The effect of CuO loading

Thanh Son Cam et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of CuO/CeO2 nanocomposite catalysts were synthesized using the urea-nitrate combustion method, with different CuO loadings. The CuO loading significantly influenced the phase composition, crystallite size, specific surface area, and catalytic performance of the catalysts. Among them, CuO/CeO2-20 catalyst showed high catalytic activity and stability in CO oxidation at low reaction temperature. The synergistic effect of redox pairs and oxygen vacancies contributed to the enhanced catalytic activity of CuO/CeO2-20 catalyst. Further research on doping oxides of other rare-earth and transition metals may further improve the catalytic performance of CuO/CeO2-20 sample.
