Selective removal of Cd(II) ion using synthesised Poly(o-anisidine)-Sn(IV)silicophosphate nanocomposite

Md Dilwar Alam Khan et al.

Summary: A nanocomposite cation exchanger, poly(o-anisidine)-Sn(IV)silicophosphate, was successfully synthesized using the sol-gel method. The nanocomposite showed granulometric nature with uniform surface morphology and good thermal and chemical stability. It exhibited excellent selectivity towards Cd2+ and Th4+ in metal sorption studies, and achieved quantitative binary separations of metal ions with high recovery. The nanocomposite also showed potential in selective removal of hazardous Cd2+ from industrial effluents, making it promising for environmental pollution control and wastewater treatment.

Technologies for municipal solid waste management: Current status, challenges, and future perspectives

Shamshad Khan et al.

Summary: This study found that MSW generation is increasing in provinces such as Shandong, Guangdong, Zhejiang, and Fujian, but declining in other eastern coastal cities, provinces, and special zones. Municipal solid waste in China is mainly treated using landfill, incineration, and composting techniques, with significantly lower usage efficiency than in developed countries. The effectiveness of China's municipal waste management system needs to be improved.

Digambar Singh et al.

Summary: The latest research on fuels has focused on exploring better alternatives for compression ignition engines, with biodiesel from waste cooking oil being identified as a viable source. The two-step transesterification method is preferred for commercial-scale biodiesel production due to the high free fatty acids and water content in waste cooking oil. Factors such as catalyst concentration, alcohol to oil molar ratio, reaction temperature, and time of reaction all affect the yield of biodiesel.

Current State and Perspectives on Transesterification of Triglycerides for Biodiesel Production

Mohammed Salaheldeen et al.

Summary: Triglycerides, derived from natural sources such as virgin vegetable oils and animal fats, are the main components used for biodiesel production. Biodiesel, considered an attractive alternative fuel to diesel with environmental advantages, is typically produced through transesterification. Commercialization of biodiesel is limited by high production costs, with the transesterification route being a crucial factor. Various modifications to the conventional method and innovative technologies have been proposed to improve biodiesel production efficiency and lower costs.
