Viscoelastic and dry-sliding wear properties of basalt fiber-reinforced composites based on a surface-modified graphene oxide/epoxy matrix

N. Jamali et al.

Summary: This study focused on developing silanized graphene oxide reinforced composites to enhance tribological and viscoelastic properties, with the optimal loading of 0.4 wt.%. Results showed significant improvements in wear rate, friction coefficient, storage modulus, and glass transition temperature. The addition of silanized graphene oxide proved to be effective in enhancing the properties of fibrous composites.

Synergistic effect of nano-ZrO2/graphene oxide hybrid system on the high-velocity impact behavior and interlaminar shear strength of basalt fiber/epoxy composite

Davood Toorchi et al.

Summary: By functionalizing nano-zirconium oxide and graphene oxide and incorporating them into basalt fiber/epoxy composite, the study found that adding 2wt% nano-zirconium oxide + 0.1wt% graphene oxide can significantly enhance the high-velocity impact properties and interlaminar shear strength.

Experimental investigation of flexural properties of glass fiber-epoxy self-healable composite structures containing capsulated epoxy healing agent and NiCl2(imidazole)4 catalyst

Hossein Ebrahimnezhad-Khaljiri et al.

Summary: The study focused on fabricating glass fiber-epoxy self-healable composites with encapsulated healing agent, and investigating the effects of different ratios of encapsulated epoxy and damage forces on their healing ability. Increasing the microcapsules improved healing ability but slightly reduced flexural strength. As damage forces increased, the healing ability decreased, transitioning from matrix cracking to fiber breakage.

Self-healing epoxy coating synthesis by embedment of metal 2-methyl imidazole and acetylacetonate complexes with microcapsules

Hafeez Ullah et al.

Summary: An improved method was developed to encapsulate epoxy resin by individual wrapping of poly(melamine-formaldehyde) and poly(urea-formaldehyde) shell, achieving lower curing temperature and activation energies. The addition of microcapsules and complexes did not adversely alter the mechanical properties of the epoxy coatings.

The synergic effect of microcapsules and titanium nanoparticles on the self-healing and self-lubricating epoxy coatings: A dual smart application

Maryam Ghorbani et al.

Summary: The study found that the smart coating containing 16% nano-TiO2 exhibited the best performance in corrosion media, with the ability to heal scratches layer by layer. Additionally, adding 12% nano-TiO2 improved the anti-wear properties. However, the formation of nano-TiO2/epoxy skin and nanoparticle agglomeration on the surface may have negative effects on the wear properties of smart coatings.

Epoxy/imidazole functionalized silica epoxy nanocomposites: Mechanical and fracture behaviour

T. Prasad et al.

Summary: The mechanical and fracture performance of epoxy nanocomposites with functionalized silica nanoparticles have been enhanced by utilizing a post-synthesis grafting method. GGS nanoparticles showed potential in improving fracture toughness and energy, as well as demonstrating excellent cure capability in the composite. The use of GGS as reinforcement in the epoxy matrix can effectively mitigate brittle failure in epoxy composites.
