Social welfare and bank performance: evidence from a stochastic neural hybrid MCDM approach

Andrew Maredza et al.

Summary: The research explores the relationship between banking performance and social welfare in SADC countries, revealing paradoxical associations with economic activity and wealth concentration. The study suggests that SADC banking performance can improve HDI standards through efficient financial intermediation and positive spillovers. Additionally, the paper contributes to MCDM literature by simultaneously exploring utility functions and distance to ideal solutions, and using a bias-free criteria weights computation method.

Bank efficiency estimation in China: DEA-RENNA approach

Jorge Antunes et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the efficiency level of Chinese commercial banks consistently increased until 2015, then declined and experienced slight volatility, finally reaching 0.746 by the end of 2018. State-owned banks were found to have the highest efficiency, rural commercial banks the lowest, and foreign banks the most volatile. Bank size has a positive impact on non-traditional banking business and expense management, while bank efficiency is negatively influenced by bank profitability, traditional businesses, and expense management.

Comparing aggregation methods in large-scale group AHP: Time for the shift to distance-based aggregation

Szabolcs Duleba et al.

Summary: This study compares the efficiency of conventional aggregation methods with new distance-based aggregation techniques in simulated and real-world group AHP cases. It found that in small dimensions, both Euclidean Distance-Based Aggregation Method (EDBAM) and Aitchison Distance-Based Aggregation Method (ADBAM) outperform conventional techniques significantly. In large dimensions, the dominance of EDBAM remains. Therefore, distance-based aggregation is a better approach than conventional methods when there are a high number of evaluators.

Embodied Carbon in China's Export Trade: A Multi Region Input-Output Analysis

Weixin Yang et al.

Summary: This paper examines the carbon embodied in China's export trade using multi-region input-output models and international input-output data. It finds that the majority of embodied carbon comes from the secondary industry, with the manufacturing and power sectors playing significant roles. Additionally, the crop and animal production sector has a significant share of embodied carbon in the primary industry, while the transport and storage sector dominates the tertiary industry.

Analysis of Influencing Factors of Embodied Carbon in China's Export Trade in the Background of Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality

Weixin Yang et al.

Summary: The study found that the change in export scale is the most influential factor affecting the embodied carbon of China's export trade, followed by carbon emission intensity, and the least impact is from changes in the export structure. The expansion of export scale has caused the growth of trade embodied carbon, while the decline in carbon intensity would slow down the growth of trade embodied carbon.

Unveiling endogeneity between competition and efficiency in Chinese banks: a two-stage network DEA and regression analysis

Summary: The study on Chinese banking efficiency found that competition and market power have a positive impact on industry performance, while credit risk in older local banks may jeopardize the overall productivity levels. A competitive structure at the province level and reduced market power of local banks contribute to a sound banking system. Ultimately, a concentration of credit in a few banks leads to increased bank productivity.
