Simultaneous short-term significant wave height and energy flux prediction using zonal multi-task evolutionary artificial neural networks

A. M. Gomez-Orellana et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel approach to predict wave height and flux of energy simultaneously using short-term time prediction horizons. The proposed method applies multi-task learning paradigm and a zonal strategy to predict both parameters for multiple neighbouring ocean buoys. Experimental results show that the proposed approach outperforms state-of-the-art regression techniques in terms of prediction performance and number of connections required.

A comparative study for determining Covid-19 risk levels by unsupervised machine learning methods

Huseyin Fidan et al.

Summary: This study compares the effectiveness of different clustering algorithms in determining cities with similar risk levels using unsupervised machine learning techniques. The results reveal that Gray Relational Clustering algorithm performs the best in clustering based on the number of cases. For restrictions based on environmental variables, more than 4 clusters are needed for healthier decisions, and Gray Relational Clustering provides stable results.

First and second waves of coronavirus disease-19: A comparative study in hospitalized patients in Reus, Spain

Simona Iftimie et al.

Summary: Many countries have experienced a two-wave pattern in reported COVID-19 cases in 2020, with the second wave showing characteristics of younger patients, lower hospitalization time, and death rate compared to the first wave. The second wave had more children, pregnant and post-partum women, and different treatment approaches compared to the first wave, indicating potential differences in the impact of the virus between the two periods.
