Robust chronic convulsive seizures, high frequency oscillations, and human seizure onset patterns in an intrahippocampal kainic acid model in mice

Christos Panagiotis Lisgaras et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that modified intrahippocampal kainic acid (IHKA) injection can induce frequent and robust seizures in mice, mimicking the characteristics of temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) in humans. The study also reveals the occurrence of high frequency oscillations (HFOs) and similarities in seizure patterns and pathology between the mouse model and human TLE. The findings have significant implications for epilepsy research and preclinical drug screening.

Cognitive impairment in temporal lobe epilepsy: contributions of lesion, localization and lateralization

Thanh Ha Phuong et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the impact of different types of lesions, focus lateralization, and focus localization on the neuropsychological profile of refractory TLE adult patients. The results showed that hippocampal sclerosis is the main contributor to cognitive impairment, while focus localization and lateralization also influence patients' neuropsychological performance.
