Latent Nucleophilic Carbenes

Anatoliy Marchenko et al.

Summary: Using DFT and ab initio calculations, it has been demonstrated that noncyclic formamidines can undergo thermal rearrangement into their isomeric aminocarbenes under rather mild conditions. The obtained silylformamidine has been shown to exhibit high reactivity as a nucleophilic carbene, reacting with various functional groups and displaying high mobility of the trimethylsilyl group. Similar behavior is predicted for some other silylated formamidines and related compounds based on calculation results.
