The Edinburgh Cognitive and Behavioural ALS Screen (ECAS) for Japanese ALS and FTD patients

Yasuhiro Watanabe et al.

Summary: The Japanese version of the ECAS is a valid and useful screening tool to identify multiple types of cognitive impairment in ALS patients. The study found that executive functions were the most commonly affected ECAS domain in ALS patients, and that ALS-FTD patients performed significantly worse in both ALS-specific and ALS-nonspecific functions compared to ALS patients without FTD. The Japanese ECAS score positively correlated with years of education and negatively correlated with age at onset.

Prevalence of mild behavioural impairment: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Yining Pan et al.

Summary: MBI is a common neurobehavioral syndrome characterized by emergent neuropsychiatric symptoms in later life, with a pooled prevalence of 33.5%-45.5% in MCI subjects, 17.0% in CN subjects, and 35.8% in SCI or CN-AR subjects. Studies show MBI significantly impacts cognitive deterioration and is associated with the pathology and genetics of Alzheimer's disease.

Mild Behavioral Impairment and Subjective Cognitive Decline Predict Cognitive and Functional Decline

Zahinoor Ismail et al.

Summary: The study showed that individuals with both MBI and SCD had the highest risk of cognitive and functional decline, suggesting that these two conditions combined can serve as a simple and scalable method to identify high-risk patients.
