This article schematically illustrates the observational and genetic evidence that suggests LDL-cholesterol and lipoprotein(a) may be involved in the pathogenesis of aortic valve stenosis and/or aortic valve calcification. Recent trials with statins had no effect on the outcomes of the aortic valve. The questions about planned trials with Lp(a)-lowering drugs are listed.
