Multidimensional psychopathological profile differences between patients with psychogenic nonepileptic seizures and epileptic seizure disorders

Michael Lloyd et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the multidimensional psychopathological profiles of patients with PNES and ES. The results showed that PNES patients reported more overall psychopathology, particularly in childhood trauma, dissociation, and depression. These psychopathological profiles have limited usefulness as standalone screening tools for differentiating PNES and ES.

Cognitive profiles in patients with epileptic and nonepileptic seizures evaluated using a brief cognitive assessment tool

Roxane Dilcher et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare cognitive profiles between patients with epilepsy and those with nonepileptic seizures using a brief cognitive screening tool. Patients with epilepsy, especially with bilateral temporal lobe epilepsy, and those on specific anti-seizure medications showed lower cognitive performance. The results suggest that the Neuropsychiatry Unit Cognitive Assessment Tool is sensitive in detecting cognitive impairment in patients with seizure disorders.

Clinical predictors of discordance between screening tests and psychiatric assessment for depressive and anxiety disorders among patients being evaluated for seizure disorders

Sarah Holper et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify factors predicting discordance between screening instruments and psychiatric diagnoses among patients with seizure disorders. Results showed that seven clinical factors were associated with discordance, and patients with a variety of psychiatric symptoms should be evaluated more thoroughly for depression and anxiety, especially those with psychogenic nonepileptic seizures.
