Characterization and Evaluation of MODIS-Derived Crop Water Stress Index (CWSI) for Monitoring Drought from 2001 to 2017 over Inner Mongolia

Zi-Ce Ma et al.

Summary: Inner Mongolia is a major green production base for agricultural and animal husbandry products, but frequent drought poses challenges. Through analyzing spatial and temporal distribution of drought from 2001 to 2017, it was found that the drought trend is affected by precipitation, with different land-use types showing little difference in CWSI.

Drought Affected Ecosystem Water Use Efficiency of a Natural Oak Forest in Central China

Xiaodong Niu et al.

Summary: Global climate models predict more frequent drought events in Central China, but the impact of seasonal drought on ecosystem water use efficiency (WUE) and water regulation strategy in natural forests remains poorly understood. This study found that summer drought significantly increased WUE in a natural oak forest, while autumn drought slightly decreased WUE. Strong drought can also affect ecosystem WUE and water regulation strategy in the following year.
