Assessing oxidative stress resulting from environmental exposure to metals (Oids) in a middle Eastern population

Ata Rafiee et al.

Summary: The study found that chronic exposure to metals is associated with ROS damage, with urinary ROS biomarkers correlated with heavy metals, while smoking is considered a significant contributory factor for both MDA and 8-OHdG.

Assessment of Drinking Water Sources for Water Quality, Human Health Risks, and Pollution Sources: A Case Study of the District Bajaur, Pakistan

Muhammad Haya Khan et al.

Summary: The study revealed that different drinking water sources in the Bajaur district of Pakistan have issues with total suspended solids and bacterial contamination exceeding permissible limits, as well as some samples showing higher levels of toxic elements. Spring water had a hazard index exceeding the toxicity level, while tube wells were recommended for drinking water purposes.

Serum lactate dehydrogenase activities as systems biomarkers for 48 types of human diseases

Yuling Wu et al.

Summary: This study investigated serum LDH activities in 172,933 patients with 48 diseases and 9528 healthy individuals, finding that 41 out of 46 diseases showed significantly increased LDH activities, while gout and cerebral ischemia exhibited decreased LDH activities. Hepatic encephalopathy and lung fibrosis were identified as having the highest AUCs, sensitivities, and specificities among the 48 diseases.
