Cu-Doped magnetic loofah biochar for tetracycline degradation via peroxymonosulfate activation

Dajie Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that Cu-doped deactivated magnetic loofah biochar can serve as a peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activator to effectively remove tetracycline. The catalyst exhibits high efficiency and stability, and can be used in a wide pH range and in the presence of coexisting anions. The research also provides insight into the possible degradation mechanism and reusing waste biochar catalysts.

Efficient cesium encapsulation from contaminated water by cellulosic biomass based activated wood charcoal

Shahjalal Khandaker et al.

Summary: A cost-effective cellulosic biomass based activated wood charcoal was developed for Cs adsorption from contaminated water. The adsorption process followed Langmuir isotherm and pseudosecond-order kinetic models, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 35.46 mgg(-1). Burning the Cs adsorbed charcoal resulted in a 98% volume reduction, ensuring safe storage and disposal of radioactive waste.

Degradation of cephalexin by persulfate activated with magnetic loofah biochar: Performance and mechanism

Haocheng Song et al.

Summary: Antibiotic contamination is a serious environmental concern, and sulfate radical-based advanced oxidation processes have shown potential for treatment. A magnetic biochar derived from loofah was used to activate persulfate for cephalexin degradation, with the C-OH of the catalyst playing a crucial role. The conversion between Fe3+ and Fe2+ enhanced the degradation by producing SO4 center dot-, indicating broad adaptability and applications of the catalyst.

Effect of Fe-N modification on the properties of biochars and their adsorption behavior on tetracycline removal from aqueous solution

Yanglu Mei et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that Fe-N modified biochar produced by mixing rice straw with FeCl3·6H2O and urea showed enhanced adsorption capacity for TC due to the presence of more functional groups and increased surface area and pore volume. The adsorption mechanism of TC on Fe-N-RSBC involved pore filling, hydrogen-bond interaction, surface complexation, and pi-pi interaction. Fe-N-RSBC can be effectively used as an adsorbent for TC removal from aqueous solution.
