Income inequality, ecological footprint, and carbon dioxide emissions in Asian developing economies: what effects what and how?

Salim Khan et al.

Summary: The study analyzed data from 18 Asian developing economies from 2006 to 2017 to investigate the impact of income inequality on carbon emissions and ecological footprint, as well as the impact of carbon emissions and ecological footprint on income inequality. The findings confirmed a positive relationship between income inequality, carbon emissions, and ecological footprint, with higher income inequality leading to environmental degradation and increased carbon emissions and ecological footprint contributing to rising income inequality. Additionally, foreign direct investment, access to electricity, and population growth were found to control income inequality but have negative effects on ecological footprint and carbon emissions. The empirical findings of the study provide important policy implications.

Examining the effect of information and communication technology, innovations, and renewable energy consumption on CO2 emission: evidence from BRICS countries

Hayat Khan et al.

Summary: The increasing use of ICT in economic activities has significant impact on ecological footprint, especially in emerging economies like BRICS countries. This study investigates the impact of ICT, renewable energy consumption, and innovation on carbon dioxide emission in BRICS countries from 1990 to 2019. The findings suggest that ICT indicators, along with innovation and renewable energy consumption, can help reduce emissions, while trade openness and fixed telephone subscriptions may increase it.

Revealing the nexus between tourism development and CO2 emissions in Asia: does asymmetry matter?

Kaixin Wangzhou et al.

Summary: Asia is a rapidly growing region in terms of tourism, economic growth, and CO2 emissions. However, the relationship between tourism and CO2 emissions is not well understood. This study reveals that an increase in tourism arrivals leads to an increase in CO2 emissions, while a negative shock also increases CO2 emissions in the long term. Additionally, the negative shock has a greater impact on CO2 emissions than the positive shock in Asia. The findings suggest that tourism receipts play a significant role in maintaining the stability of CO2 emissions in Asian economies. It is recommended for authorities to develop and promote green international tourism activities in Asia.

Impact of good governance and natural resource rent on economic and environmental sustainability: an empirical analysis for South Asian economies

Sadia Safdar et al.

Summary: This study analyzes panel data from six South Asian countries from 1996 to 2020 to explore the role of governance and natural resource rent in sustainable development. The results suggest that good governance reduces greenhouse gas emissions, promotes economic and social development, and has a positive association with gross domestic product and trade openness. Additionally, natural resource rent is positively related to greenhouse gas emissions, but with good governance, it can decrease them.
