Hojat Veisi et al.

Summary: This study involves the novel synthesis of Au nanoparticles decorated biguanidine modified mesoporous silica KIT-5 using a post-functionalization approach. The material was found to be an efficient catalyst in the reductive degradation of harmful water contaminating organic dyes at room temperature in the presence of NaBH4. All reactions followed pseudo-unimolecular kinetics, with the rate constant being dependent on the catalyst load.

Functionalization of gold nanoparticles using guanidine thiocyanate for sensitive and selective visual detection of Cd2+

Jigna R. Bhamore et al.

Summary: A facile, selective, and sensitive optical method based on guanidine thiocyanate (GT)-functionalized gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) has been developed for the quantification of Cd2+ in environmental water samples. The method utilizes the surface plasmon resonance properties of AuNPs to selectively detect Cd2+ by forming a stable complex with GT. The interaction between Cd2+ and GT-AuNPs results in aggregation of the nanoparticles, causing a detectable color change visible to the naked eye and by UV-vis spectroscopy.

Highly Sensitive and Selective Fluorescence Turn-On Detection of Pb (II) Based on Fe3O4@Au-FITC Nanocomposite

Yina Cai et al.

Summary: New nanocomposites, Fe3O4@Au-FITC, have been prepared and explored for the fluorescent detection of Pb2+. The method has shown a detection limit of 5.2 nmol/L and a linear range of 0.02-2.0 mu mol/L for Pb2+, with minimal response to common metal ions, and demonstrated successful detection of Pb2+ spiked in a lake-water sample with recoveries of 98.2-106.4%. Through ion-induced nanomaterial etching, this method shows great potential for developing robust fluorescent assays.

Gold nanoparticles with tailored size through ligand modification for catalytic applications

Nidhi Kapil et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates a facile approach to synthesise gold nanoparticles with different core sizes by using various Au(I) precursors and modifying the steric hindrance imposed by bound ligands. An interesting relationship between steric hindrance and final size of nanoparticles around the metal is deduced. The catalytic performance of AuNPs immobilised onto TS-1 zeolite for propylene epoxidation shows smaller AuNPs exhibit enhanced catalytic activity and selectivity.
