Opportunities for reducing mercury emissions in the cement industry

Krzysztof Kogut et al.

Summary: The cement industry is a major source of mercury emissions. By understanding the distribution of mercury in the production process, it is possible to reduce emissions and mercury content. Mercury concentrations vary in different stages, with ferrous additives having the highest mercury content. Performing mass balances helps determine mercury flows and emission indexes.

Development of an Understanding of Reactive Mercury in Ambient Air: A Review

Mae Sexauer Gustin et al.

Summary: This review discusses the history and current status of measurement methods for reactive mercury (RM) compounds. It was found that the thermal desorption of an annular KCl denuder underestimated GOM concentrations in ambient air measurements, suggesting a need for better surfaces for collection and higher resolution measurement systems in the future.

Exchange Reactions Alter Molecular Speciation of Gaseous Oxidized Mercury

Na Mao et al.

Summary: Studies have shown that adsorption of gaseous oxidized mercury (GOM) compounds on substrates leads to rapid formation of exchange products, which can volatilize quickly. These reactions may occur on atmospheric aerosols and during chemical analysis, affecting the speciation of GOM.

Speciated atmospheric mercury at the Waliguan Global Atmosphere Watch station in the northeastern Tibetan Plateau: implication of dust-related sources for particulate bound mercury

Hui Zhang et al.

Summary: A year-long study on atmospheric mercury levels in the Tibetan Plateau at the Waliguan Observatory revealed small seasonal variations in GEM but significant variations in PBM concentrations, influenced by anthropogenic emissions to the east and dust particles from the west.
