Assessing the role of SuDS in resilience enhancement of urban drainage system: A case study of Gurugram City, India

Guru Chythanya Guptha et al.

Summary: The increasing frequency of urban floods worldwide due to rapid urbanization, frequent climatic extremes, or poor drainage conditions necessitates evaluating the performance of the urban drainage systems (UDS) and enhancing their resilience. In this study, a comprehensive assessment of the UDS of Gurugram City, India, through the concepts of sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) is presented. The study finds that climate change poses a more severe threat to UDS than urbanization, and the combination of both can worsen the repercussions. The role of SuDS in enhancing the resilience of UDS by mitigating flood magnitudes, delaying peak flow, and storing additional water volume within the catchment is demonstrated.

Trend analysis of hydro-meteorological parameters and influence of anthropogenic activities in lower Narmada River basin, India

Geeta S. Joshi et al.

Summary: This research assesses the changes in hydro-meteorological parameters in the Lower Narmada River basin in India over time. It finds that there is a positive and higher trend in rainfall from 1998 to 2013, while the maximum and minimum temperatures have increased by 0.05 and 0.15 degrees Celsius per decade respectively. The spatial distribution of these trends is influenced by land use and land cover as well as anthropogenic activities in the region.
