Acrylamide exposure increases cardiovascular risk of general adult population probably by inducing oxidative stress, inflammation, and TGF-β1: A prospective cohort study

Bin Wang et al.

Summary: ACR exposure in general adults is associated with increased cardiovascular risk, which is partly mediated by oxidative stress, inflammation, and TGF-beta 1.

Exposure to volatile organic compounds may be associated with oxidative DNA damage-mediated childhood asthma

Hongxuan Kuang et al.

Summary: The study found that asthmatic children had significantly higher levels of DNA damage and VOC metabolites compared to healthy children, and a significant positive correlation with OH-Cot. The importance of respiratory exposure to VOCs for children in Guangzhou was highlighted. There were significant dose-response relationships between most VOC metabolites and 8-OHdG.

Exposure to volatile organic compounds-acrolein, 1,3-butadiene, and crotonaldehyde-is associated with vascular dysfunction

Katlyn E. McGraw et al.

Summary: Exposure to acrolein and 1,3-butadiene is associated with endothelial dysfunction and may contribute to increased risk of hypertension in individuals with elevated sympathetic tone, particularly in Black participants.

High-Resolution Exposure Assessment for Volatile Organic Compounds in Two California Residences

David M. Lunderberg et al.

Summary: Residences play a significant role in human exposure to volatile organic compounds (VOCs), with emissions from buildings and their static contents being the main contributing factor. Occupant activities and outdoor-to-indoor transport also contribute to VOC exposures. Some VOCs exceeded chronic health guidelines, but exposures for other assessable species were generally below guideline levels. Even older buildings can substantially contribute to occupant exposures through VOC emissions.
