Accelerated tidal corrosion of X80 pipeline steel by Desulfovibrio desulfuricans

Xiaobao Zhou et al.

Summary: This study investigated the tidal corrosion of X80 pipeline steel in an inoculated marine tidal environment using weight loss, SEM/EDS, and electrochemical measurements. The results showed that D. desulfuricans accelerated the corrosion process, and the acceleration effect increased with the altitude of the specimen in tidal zones.

Selected corrosion of X80 pipeline steel welded joints induced by Desulfovibrio desulfuricans

Qin Wang et al.

Summary: The corrosion behavior of X80 pipeline steel welded joints by sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) has been explored. It was observed that in the sterile medium, the heating affected zone (HAZ) showed larger and deeper corrosion pits compared to the base metal (BM) and weld zone (WZ). However, in the inoculated medium, Desulfovibrio desulfuricans (D. desulfuricans) primarily attached to the BM and WZ, increasing their local corrosion sensitivity. D. desulfuricans showed a dislike for attaching to the HAZ surface, leading to non-uniform corrosion dominating the surface.
