Unstable Hangman Fracture Complicated by Vertebral-Venous Fistula: Surgical Considerations and Review of Literature

Venugopal Sarath Chander et al.

Summary: This case report highlights the importance of timely recognition and management of traumatic vertebral venous fistulas, which rarely coexist with hangman fractures. The unique management approach for handling an unstable hangman fracture with a VVF was successful in achieving good neck function and bony fusion in the patient at 1-year follow-up.

Segmentation and Identification of Vertebrae in CT Scans Using CNN, k-Means Clustering and k-NN

Nicola Altini et al.

Summary: This study proposed a framework that combines deep learning and classical machine learning methods for vertebrae segmentation and identification. The framework consists of a fully automated binary segmentation for the whole spine and a semi-automated procedure for locating vertebrae centroids, avoiding the need for single vertebrae-level annotations during training. The results showed high accuracy for both spine segmentation and vertebrae identification tasks.
