Life cycle assessment of methanol vehicles from energy, environmental and economic perspectives

Lina Luo et al.

Summary: As a new alternative fuel vehicle, methanol vehicles in China have shown promising development in energy reserve strategy. Pilot projects have demonstrated that methanol vehicles can effectively reduce fuel costs and pollutant emissions. This research uses the Energy, Environment, and Economy evaluation method to compare methanol vehicles with electric vehicles, compressed natural gas vehicles, and gasoline vehicles in terms of energy consumption, environmental emissions, and economic benefit. The results show that methanol vehicles have higher total energy consumption but lower greenhouse gas emissions compared to gasoline vehicles. Moreover, methanol vehicles demonstrate better economic benefits than gasoline vehicles. It is also found that due to low renovation costs and fuel prices, methanol vehicles have better development potential in the economic-oriented and equilibrium scenarios compared to electric and compressed natural gas vehicles.

Modeling and dynamic performance research on proton exchange membrane fuel cell system with hydrogen cycle and dead-ended anode

Qinguo Zhang et al.

Summary: By establishing a system simulation model considering nitrogen crossover and water migration, and conducting related simulation research, the response speed and output power of proton exchange membrane fuel cell system can be effectively improved. Increasing pump speed is beneficial for hydrogen recovery and increasing the humidity of the anode inlet, avoiding membrane drying, and the higher the operating temperature, the lower the output voltage.
