Investigation of energy and financial performance of a novel CO2 supercritical solar-biomass trigeneration system for operation in the climate of Athens

Dimitrios Tsimpoukis et al.

Summary: The study investigates a supercritical CO2 trigeneration system for a refrigerated warehouse in Athens, which utilizes solar and biomass energy sources to generate power while meeting heating and refrigeration needs. The system shows higher efficiency and financial benefits compared to a refrigeration-only system, with a payback period of 4.0 years and significant cost savings.

Hybrid concentrated solar biomass (HCSB) plant for electricity generation in Australia: Design and evaluation of techno-economic and environmental performance

Ella Middelhoff et al.

Summary: The study evaluates the technical feasibility of a potential plant design for a rice-straw-fed HCSB plant in Australia, showing that HCSB plants can reach thermal efficiencies from 21 to 34% depending on size. Considering economic feasibility, the deployment of HCSB plants requires an electricity price of AU$ 120-350/MWh with an internal rate of return (IRR) of 11%. Additionally, the techno-economic assessment demonstrates advantages compared to standalone CSP plants and highlights the competitiveness of HCSB plants compared to other renewable technologies in Australia.
