Sorption and recovery of phenolic compounds from aqueous phase of sewage sludge hydrothermal liquefaction using bio-char

Pixiang Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the sorption of phenolic compounds by bio-char and found that the pseudo-second-order kinetic model described the experimental results well. The Langmuir isotherm model was suitable at high sorption temperatures, while the Freundlich isotherm model was better at low temperatures. Additionally, alkaline desorption and regeneration experiments were conducted, and the eluents with phenolic compounds were characterized using a liquid chromatography-mass spectrometer.

Kamaldeep Sharma et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the potential of co-hydrodeoxygenation of partially upgraded bio-oil obtained from hydrothermal liquefaction with rapeseed oil to produce bio-derived drop-in fuel. Results showed that temperature and WHSV are important parameters for achieving complete deoxygenation and controlling the properties of co-processed bio-oils. The quality of co-processed bio-oils obtained under optimized conditions showed improved characteristics compared to hydroprocessed oils produced from pure rapeseed oil.

Comparative Studies of Carbon Nanomaterial and γ-Alumina as Supports for the Ni-Mo Catalyst in Hydrotreating of Gas Oils

Emma Aryee et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of different support materials on the efficiency of hydrotreating catalyst with Ni-Mo. It was found that NiMo/CNH catalyst exhibited outstanding physicochemical properties, leading to superior hydrodesulfurization activity compared to NiMo/OCPf, NiMo/OCP, and NiMo/CNT catalysts. X-ray absorption spectroscopy analysis revealed that a distorted octahedral Mo coordination environment in carbon-supported catalysts did not always correlate with higher hydrodesulfurization and hydrodenitrogenation activities.

Effect of catalyst and temperature on the quality and productivity of HTL bio-oil from microalgae: A review

Nishesh Sharma et al.

Summary: Hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) is considered an effective technology for biooil production, with algae biomass being recognized as one of the most suitable feedstocks. The choice of temperature, retention time, and catalyst significantly affect the efficiency of HTL products, with a temperature range around 280 +/- 40 degrees C being reported as the most suitable for maximum bio-oil yield. Both homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts have been used to improve bio-oil generation, with heterogeneous catalysts preferred for their advantages such as improved bio-oil yield, easy recovery, and eco-friendly approach.
