Decomposition and measurement of the rebound effect: The case of energy efficiency improvements in Spain

Summary: This study uses Structural Decomposition Analysis to investigate the rebound effect, finding the total rebound effect caused by energy efficiency improvements in Spain from 2000 to 2014, as well as the direct, indirect, and economy-wide rebound effects. The results show that the rebound effect varies among different sectors and economic scopes.

Summary: This study decomposes the household electricity consumption of air conditioner into different factors and analyzes the influence pathways of increasing energy consumption. It also examines the two-stage decision-making process of AC purchase to identify the target customers for energy-efficient AC. The findings indicate that the power size of the AC is a significant factor contributing to increased electricity consumption.

Evaluation of the efficiency of Chinese energy-saving household appliance subsidy policy: An economic benefit perspective

Summary: China has made significant efforts to control energy consumption and reduce environmental pressure in recent decades. This study evaluated the effectiveness of current subsidy policies for stimulating the purchase of energy-efficient household appliances using sales data from refrigerators in Beijing. The results showed that economic benefits were mainly generated in refrigerators with energy efficiency grade 2, suggesting a potential increase in subsidy amount for grade 1 refrigerators in the future.

Summary: This study examines the factors influencing the evolution of energy consumption for space heating in residential buildings through top-down and bottom-up analyses. Findings show that energy efficiency policies had a significant impact on the changes in space heating energy consumption in Germany and Switzerland from 2000 to 2016, although technical and comfort rebounds, as well as societal changes, also played a role.
