The cost of energy efficiency programs: Estimates from utility-reported datasets

Patrick Knight et al.

Summary: Electric utilities and state regulators are increasingly relying on energy efficiency to meet energy needs. According to the analysis of self-reported data from over 700 electric utilities, the U.S. Energy Information Administration's data suggests that energy efficiency programs are typically cost-effective. The study also reveals a relationship between the cost of saved energy and the size of program spending.
