Geometry-tunable sulfur-doped carbon nitride nanotubes with high crystallinity for visible light nitrogen fixation

Yuxiang Zhu et al.

Summary: Highly crystalline carbon nitride nanotubes doped with sulfur (S-CNNTs) were synthesized by copolymerizing thiourea and melamine. The resulting S-CNNTs with a diameter of around 20 nm and mesopores on the tube wall exhibited optimal visible light photocatalytic activity, attributed to increased crystallinity, S-induced coordination, and one-dimensional mesoporous structure. The sulfur doping improved photoreduction ability and promoted the exposure of active sites, leading to enhanced photocatalytic performance.

Boosting photocatalytic hydrogen production from water by photothermally induced biphase systems

Shaohui Guo et al.

Summary: The study introduces an efficient biphase photocatalytic system composed of integrated photothermal-photocatalytic materials using charred wood substrates to convert liquid water to water steam and split hydrogen under light illumination without additional energy. This system significantly reduces the interface barrier and greatly lowers the transport resistance of hydrogen gas, achieving an impressive hydrogen production rate in particulate photocatalytic systems.

Near-Infrared-Triggered Nitrogen Fixation over Upconversion Nanoparticles Assembled Carbon Nitride Nanotubes with Nitrogen Vacancies

Yuxiang Zhu et al.

Summary: The photocatalytic artificial fixation of N-2 to NH3 was achieved using NaYF4:Yb,Tm (NYF) upconversion nanoparticles (NPs) decorated carbon nitride nanotubes with nitrogen vacancies (NYF/NV-CNNTs). The mixture containing 15% NYF exhibited the highest NH3 yield under NIR light, with N-15 isotope-labeling NMR results confirming the origin of ammonia. NVs and NYF NPs were found to enhance the photogenerated electron transfer and active sites for N-2 adsorption, respectively.
