Experimental study on the washing characteristics of fly ash from municipal solid waste incineration

Mi Yan et al.

Summary: The soluble salt content and composition of fly ash from municipal solid waste incineration are affected by incinerator type and cleaning system. Washing parameters such as liquid/solid ratio play a key role in reducing salt content. ANOVA analysis shows that the liquid/solid ratio is the most principal factor for salt and Cl removal during washing.

Removal of Inorganic Salts in Municipal Solid Waste Incineration Fly Ash Using a Washing Ejector and Its Application for CO2 Capture

Hyunsoo Kim et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of washing equipment on removing inorganic salts from municipal solid waste incineration fly ash (MSW-IFA). Through utilizing hydrodynamic cavitation, a device called a "washing ejector" was developed to minimize water usage. The results showed that fluid pressure influenced the removal of inorganic salts during cavitation in water, and the washing ejector reduced the soluble salts elements by approximately 90%. The washing effluent produced was beneficial for CO2 capture and can substitute water reuse. Overall, this process is effective for removing soluble salts from fly ash and contributes to utilizing it as a resource.

Magnetically recyclable CoS-modified graphitic carbon nitride-based materials for efficient immobilization of gaseous elemental mercury

Fangjun Wang et al.

Summary: Mercury pollution from coal-fired power plants is a serious threat to both the environment and human health. A novel cobalt sulfide modified graphite carbon nitride adsorbent was developed to improve the removal efficiency of elemental mercury. The adsorbent showed excellent performance and recyclability due to the addition of cobalt sulfide and its magnetic characteristics.

Constructing 3D Bi/Bi4O5I2 microspheres with rich oxygen vacancies by one-pot solvothermal method for enhancing photocatalytic activity on mercury removal

Liping Chen et al.

Summary: Hierarchical metallic Bi modified Bi4O5I2 microspheres with rich oxygen vacancies were successfully prepared using a solvothermal method. The doping of metallic Bi created a built-in electric field to improve carrier separation efficiency. The as-prepared Bi/Bi4O5I2 exhibited excellent catalytic performance, with photo-generated holes and superoxide radicals playing a predominant role in the photocatalytic reaction mechanism.

Municipal solid waste incineration fly ash to produce eco-friendly binders for sustainable building construction

Cristina Marieta et al.

Summary: The study aims to explore the feasibility of using municipal solid waste incinerator (MSWI) fly ash as raw material for sintering belite cements. Results show that MSWI fly ashes have suitable composition, but proper pre-treatment is required to eliminate chloride and heavy metal traces, and to enhance pozzolanic activity. Additionally, the addition of vitreous silica in proper proportions is necessary.

Plasma vitrification and heavy metals solidification of MSW and sewage sludge incineration fly ash

Wenchao Ma et al.

Summary: Thermal plasma treatment is a promising method for fly ash disposal. Experimental results show that the formation temperature of vitrified slag can be reduced during co-treatment, and the CaO content in raw materials is related to the volatilization of Cd and Pb. A high Al2O3 content is beneficial for retaining Cr, Cu, and Ni in slags.
