Soaking in CO2 huff-n-puff: A single-nanopore scale study

Do Yoon Moh et al.

Summary: The study investigates the soaking step of CO2 Huff-n-Puff in a single, 4 nm-wide calcite pore using molecular dynamics simulations. The results show that CO2 molecules can be adsorbed on pore walls and diffuse along the walls or into the pore's interior as free molecules. The movement of adsorbed and free CO2 molecules inside the pore obeys a specific scaling law, highlighting the importance of surface adsorption in the storage and transport of CO2 in unconventional oil reservoirs.

Effect of pore structure on recovery of CO2 miscible flooding efficiency in low permeability reservoirs

Hengli Wang et al.

Summary: Carbon dioxide miscible flooding is proven to be an effective enhanced oil recovery technology for light and medium oil reservoirs. This study specifically investigates the impact of pore structures on CO2 miscible flooding in low permeability reservoirs, revealing a raffinate-layer that remains on the surface of the pore after flooding, affecting oil mobility. The results provide insight for analyzing CO2 miscible flooding in reservoirs with different pore structures and offer technical support for improving CO2 utilization efficiency.

Using propanol as an additive to CO2 for improving CO2 utilization and storage in oil reservoirs

Yueliang Liu et al.

Summary: This study proposes the use of propanol as a novel cosolvent to enhance the efficiency of CO2 flooding for heavy oil recovery and CO2 storage in oil reservoirs. The results show that propanol significantly reduces the viscosity of heavy oil and outperforms propane in terms of oil recovery from medium-permeability cores. In addition, propanol allows for higher CO2 storage in oil reservoirs compared to propane, making it a suitable agent for CO2 sequestration.

Micro-action mechanism and macro-prediction analysis in the process of CO2 huff-n-puff in ultra-heavy oil reservoirs

Cong Tian et al.

Summary: This study investigates the unclear microscopic interaction mechanisms between CO2 and reservoir rocks and fluids during CO2 huff-n-puff in ultra-heavy oil reservoirs. Through scanning electron microscopy and visual displacement experiments, the study reveals the corrosion ability of carbonated water formed by CO2 and formation water, the enhancement of rock pore structure and permeability by CO2, and the reduction of oil viscosity through CO2 injection. The study also demonstrates the higher displacement efficiency of CO2 compared to water flooding and shows the maintenance of reservoir pressure and the improvement in recovery factor through numerical simulation. Understanding the micro-action mechanism can provide guidance for improving the development effect of CO2 huff-n-puff in ultra-heavy oil reservoirs.

Huiying Guo et al.

Summary: This article investigates the adsorption behavior of shale oil and the mechanism of enhanced recovery using CO2 and N-2 flooding in dolomite slit pores through nonequilibrium molecular dynamics simulations. The results show that CO2 has strong solubility and displaces oil efficiently, while N-2 has a lower displacement efficiency.

Effect of gravity segregation on CO2 flooding under various pressure conditions: Application to CO2 sequestration and oil production

Chen Xiaolong et al.

Summary: Under immiscible conditions, gravity has a significant influence on CO2 flooding recovery, while under miscible conditions, this influence is not apparent. Gas injection velocity greatly restricts CO2 gravity flooding recovery under immiscible conditions, but it is no longer the main influencing index under miscible conditions. Gravity segregation is conducive to increasing CO2 sequestration potential.
