N2 injection to enhance coal seam gas drainage (N2-ECGD): Insights from underground field trial investigation

Xin Yang et al.

Summary: This study conducted exploratory tests of N-2-ECGD in underground low-gas coal seams, finding that continuous N-2 injection can promote the desorption of CH4 in the coal pores. Field trials showed an EPI of 0.45 MPa, with a significant increase in gas flow rate after N-2 injection, while the CH4 concentration decreased but the CH4 flow rate remained high.

Optimal injection timing and gas mixture proportion for enhancing coalbed methane recovery

Zhanglei Fan et al.

Summary: Optimal injection timing and gas mixture proportion are crucial for CO2 geological sequestration and enhanced recovery. The refined Thermo-hydro-mechanical (THM) coupling model, including an improved permeability model, was validated and applied to simulate gas mixture enhanced coalbed methane recovery. The results indicate that internal expansion coefficients, elastic modulus reduction ratios, and matrix diffusivity play important roles in affecting CO2 composition and CH4 production.

Numerical simulation of gas production from permafrost hydrate deposits enhanced with CO2/N2 injection

Jing-Yu Kan et al.

Summary: A new numerical simulator was developed for hydrate exploitation by CO2/N-2-CH4 replacement. CO2/N-2 injection combined with depressurization was used for gas production in actual hydrate reservoirs. The study investigated the influence of feed gas composition and injection pressure on CO2 sequestration and CH4 production, and compared the advantages of CO2/N-2 injection over traditional methods.

Molecular simulation of N2 and CO2 injection into a coal model containing adsorbed methane at different temperatures

Yang Bai et al.

Summary: The study found that CO2 and N-2 primarily displace methane gas by occupying adsorption sites, leading to a lower total energy in the CH4-CO2 model. With an increase in temperature, the concentration and motion velocity of CH4 in the vacuum layer increased, with a reduction in the diffusion activation energy of CH4 in different models by 20.53% under conditions of injecting CO2.

Experimental and numerical investigations on dynamic mechanical responses and failure process of gas-bearing coal under impact load

Xiangguo Kong et al.

Summary: The study investigated the failure process of gas-bearing coal in a complex mining environment, revealing the stress wave variations, stress-strain curves, and fracture evolution through experiments and numerical simulations. The experimental results validated the numerical simulation results, elucidating the formation of high stress areas and their impact on coal specimens.
