Marzhan Kabdrakhmanova et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the performance of PCM in buildings and its impact factors, indicating that temperature-derived functions have a significant impact on energy demand, while wind speed, solar azimuth, and atmospheric pressure have negative impacts. PCM integration may be most economically feasible in Brazil and the USA, while it is infeasible in Paraguay. Furthermore, the environmental impact of PCM application is more pronounced in the USA and China.

A novel approach to investigate the thermal comfort of the lightweight relocatable building integrated with PCM in different climates of Kazakhstan during summertime

Indira Adilkhanova et al.

Summary: This study investigated the potential of PCM and natural ventilation in enhancing thermal comfort in lightweight relocatable buildings in Kazakhstan during summer. The study introduced a new indicator, TDC, to select the optimal PCM and evaluated the performance in terms of both TDC values and storage efficiency. The research concluded that PCM 26 + NV was the best performing combination in all cities, and highlighted the efficiency of RT 26 + NV in improving thermal comfort conditions. Further analysis under climate change scenarios identified RT 28 + NV and RT 26 + NV as the optimum combinations for future use.

Simulations of melting performance enhancement for a PCM embedde d in metal periodic structures

Chunrong Zhao et al.

Summary: The idea of embedding highly thermally conductive wire nets with periodic structures into phase change materials to improve their thermal conductivity has been proposed. Numerical simulations have shown that critical cell size, cell height, and interface gap thickness all play a role in heat transfer within the PCM. Different metal materials such as copper and stainless steel have different critical pores per inch (PPI), and shorter cell heights with lower porosities can shorten melting times.

Numerical study of melting and heat transfer of PCM in a rectangular cavity with bilateral flow boundary conditions

Haofeng Qin et al.

Summary: The numerical study of melting of phase change material (PCM) in a rectangular cavity with heat transfer fluids (HTFs) flowing from bottom up reveals that natural convection is formed due to non-uniform heat transfer of HTF and cooling between solid-liquid interface and liquid PCM. The melting process can be divided into three stages, mainly influenced by Reynolds number (Re) and Rayleigh number (Ra).

Chunrong Zhao et al.

Summary: This study examines the use of graphite foam inserts to improve the melting/solidification efficiency of high-temperature phase change materials. By evaluating different porosities and filling scenarios, it was found that higher foam porosity significantly reduces the overall melting/solidification time, making it a preferred design choice.
