Influence of long-term CH4 and CO2 treatment on the pore structure and mechanical strength characteristics of Baijiao coal

Weile Geng et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the proportion of macropores in coal increased while the proportion of mesopores decreased after CH4 or CO2 treatment, leading to a looser coal structure. The microcrystalline structure parameters also changed significantly, indicating the evolution of coal pore structures under long-term gas adsorption.

Advances of nanotechnologies for hydraulic fracturing of coal seam gas reservoirs: potential applications and some limitations in Australia

Hannah Marsden et al.

Summary: The article reviews the potential applications of nanotechnology in hydraulic fracturing of coal seam gas with a focus on Australian wells. It identifies three promising applications: nanoparticle enhanced fracturing fluids, nano-proppants, and nanoparticle-coated proppants. However, the use of nanotechnology in hydraulic fracturing is hindered by regulatory challenges, high costs, and lack of field data validation.

Impacts of Long-Term Exposure to Supercritical Carbon Dioxide on Physicochemical Properties and Adsorption and Desorption Capabilities of Moisture-Equilibrated Coals

Han Zhang et al.

Summary: The long-term exposure of coal to scCO2-H2O significantly decreases mesopores in all coal types, while having minor effects on micropore surface area and volume. Additionally, the main oxygenic functional groups of coal are reduced and the Neimark fractal dimension increases after exposure, indicating increased pore surface roughness.

Influence of coal properties on coal conversion processes-coal carbonization, carbon fiber production, gasification and liquefaction technologies: a review

K. P. Keboletse et al.

Summary: Due to its large quantities and wide distribution, coal has sparked renewed interest in research and development to establish reliable, environmentally friendly, and economically feasible coal conversion technologies. It has become a prominent energy source in emerging markets with the largest increase in energy demand among all other sources. The properties of coal, such as rank, type, mineral matter content, and pore structure, have been found to significantly influence its behavior during conversion processes.

The role of supercritical carbon dioxide for recovery of shale gas and sequestration in gas shale reservoirs

Qiao Lyu et al.

Summary: The development of hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling techniques has expanded the exploitation of shale gas resources, but potential environmental issues with water usage have prompted research on supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2) as an alternative stimulation fluid. SC-CO2 has shown promise in enhancing shale gas recovery and potentially sequestering CO2 in shale reservoirs, thus reducing carbon emissions. Understanding shale-CO2 interactions and the long-term effects of SC-CO2 injection is crucial for the efficiency and environmental impact of this technology.
