Experimental investigation on improving defrosting performance of air source heat pump through vapor injection

Wenzhe Wei et al.

Summary: During the defrosting process in cold regions, injecting medium-pressure vapor refrigerant into the compressor of an air source heat pump can effectively improve defrosting efficiency. Experimental results show that an optimal opening of the injection electronic expansion valve exists, leading to reduced defrosting time, power consumption, and improved defrosting efficiency.

Analysis of operation performance of three indirect expansion solar assisted air source heat pumps for domestic heating

Li Wei Yang et al.

Summary: To achieve the net-zero emissions goal in the UK by 2050, decarbonisation of domestic heating is crucial. Solar assisted air source heat pumps offer a promising alternative application under UK weather conditions. Different types of heat pumps show varying seasonal performance factors, with the serial type performing the best but requiring larger sizes of solar collector and thermal energy storage tank. Economic analyses suggest that parallel and dual-source heat pumps could be good replacements for gas-boiler heating systems.

Optimization and techno-economic analysis of combined gas-fired boiler and solar heating system for capacity-increase cities

Dengjia Wang et al.

Summary: With the increasing urbanization, the demand for heating is on the rise. Traditionally, the solution has been to increase the number of gas-fired boilers, but this leads to severe air pollution. A viable alternative is to combine solar heating systems with existing gas-fired boilers. This study shows that the combined heating system has significant advantages in terms of energy saving and economics over the traditional solution.

Optimizing the solar-air hybrid source heat pump heating system based on the particle swarm algorithm

Zhiguo Wang et al.

Summary: Dealing with the severe energy and climate change situation, reducing carbon emissions and developing new energy sources have become a global consensus. The design of clean energy heating systems, such as solar collectors and air source heat pumps, has received widespread attention. However, optimizing parameters in hybrid heating systems, like solar-air hybrid source heat pumps, that interact with each other remains challenging and requires further study. Using the TRNSYS simulation platform, performance parameters were modified to reduce annual costs with the particle swarm optimization and coordinate search method. The results show significant enhancements in system performance using both algorithms.
